Electric Car Charging Stations

If you're in the market for an electric car - give us a call, we'll get you hooked up with a charging station!

We are recommended by Tesla and their Customers!

  • The average installation cost is $1,500
  • The pricing is based on
    • the distance of the electrical panel from the location where the vehicle will be parked
    • Whether there is enough amperage left in the panel to power the charger
    • The amperage draw of the charger
    • The route the conduit and wires need to take from the panel to the charger and whether there is any trenching necessary and whether walls or ceilings need to be cut open.
  • The most common charger Current Electrical Contractors install is the Tesla charger.
  • Tesla vehicles come with a NEMA 14-50 plug on the cord similar to the plug on an electric dryer or range.
  • The higher the amperage draw the faster the vehicle charges.
  • The Tesla charges at a rate of from 5 to 11 miles per hour of charge depending on the vehicle with a 15 amp circuit breaker to 30 to 44 miles per hour of charge with a 100 amp breaker.
  • Tesla sells a device called the “Wall Connector.” The wall connector can be set for different amperages depending on what is available from the electrical panel.
  • Current Electrical Contractors, Inc. is an approved Tesla charger installer.
  • Since we are an approved installer we must take out a permit and have the installation approved by the local inspection authority and take photos which are submitted to Tesla for their records.
  • Sometimes there is not enough power in the electrical panel to power the charger. Previously, this would mean that the homeowner would have to upgrade the electrical service in order to install the charger an expensive option. Recently a new UL-approved device has been invented called an OCC? This device has an additional cost but is almost always less than a service upgrade. This device monitors the current flow at all times and if the current reaches 80% of the main breakers maximum it shuts off the power to the car charger until the current goes down later in the day as other electrical devices are turned off. Current Electrical Contractors is the first company in Illinois to install an OCC device.

Why Make the Switch?

Switching from a traditional fuel car to an electric car provides various personal and environmental benefits. By charging your vehicle often, you will never again have to waste time or money at a gas station. This is huge since the average American spends up to $4,000 on gas each year! In addition, electric cars do not use oil to lubricate the engine, which means your average maintenance costs will be much lower than a normal car. Electric cars help reduce the U.S reliance on other countries for petroleum consumption. The increased use of electric cars also helps reduce dangerous emissions that contribute to climate change, ecological damage and public health.

“It was a very big job to get 240V from the house to the detached garage.  Current Electric did a beautiful job and was very easy to work with.  I highly recommend Current Electric.  I thought the price for their work was very reasonable too.”
