Electric Car Charging Station Installation in
Northfield, IL

In-Home Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Stations

Electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming more and more popular, and for good reason. Electric vehicles help reduce your transportation costs and carbon footprint, not to mention the convenience of never having to stop for gas. However, if you are always charging your vehicle at public EV charging stations, this can cost you time and money.

Relying on public chargers means you risk running out of battery while driving, and reduces the conveniences that come with having an EV. This is why we recommend installing an EV charger at your home or office.

At Current Electric, our fair prices and attention to detail help us stand out from other electricians in the area who offer EV charger installs, so when you are looking for trustworthy service, reach out to our team. We offer expert installation for a number of EV charging stations, including Tesla chargers.

Current Electric installs more Tesla charging stations than any other type of EV charger. Tesla also recommends Current Electric’s contractors over all other electricians in the area.

Installations for Tesla Chargers

A Tesla will connect to their associated wall connector via a proprietary NEMA 14-50 plug. The wall connector charges the vehicle, but the speed at which it does depends on your electrical panel’s capabilities.

The more amperage you have, the quicker your vehicle will charge. For example, a 15 amp circuit breaker offers only 5 to 11 miles of charge per hour. Circuit breakers up to 60 amps support Generation 3 Tesla chargers, which offer (per hour of charge) 30 miles of range for the Model X, 24 miles for the Model S, and 44 miles for the Model 3.

When your circuit breaker is not capable of supporting newer, more efficient charging stations, you can upgrade it as part of your new EV charger installation service.

In order to begin this installation process, you must obtain a permit. Once plans are approved, our team of qualified electricians will install your new charger quickly and effectively. Once the project is complete, your local inspection authority will assess your new EV charger to confirm it is up to code.

These inspections are usually just a formality, because our experts at Current Electric work hard to ensure all of our installations meet every local guideline. Once your new Tesla charger has been fully approved, we will submit photos of the installation to Tesla for their records.

Additionally, it should be noted that while Tesla uses proprietary connectors, you can still charge a Tesla on other charging station models with the appropriate adapters. A level 2 charger allows you to charge any EV in the comfort of your own garage.

Other Electric Vehicle Chargers

While Tesla is probably the most well-known electric vehicle company around, other brands are slowly putting out their own EV models. This means that some of our customers need different types of electric vehicle charging stations.

Current Electric has extensive experience installing a variety of charging station models. If you are tired of having to charge your car on the way to work, or worrying about running out of battery before hitting the road, contact our team today!

New Efficiency Technology

If an electrical panel isn’t powerful enough to run an electric car charger, there is a way you can avoid redoing your home’s entire electrical system when you’re ready to install one. An Open Charging Station Controller (OCC) shuts off your EV charger when the electrical current flowing through the electrical panel is about to reach its maximum. Once more current is available, the OCC will automatically restart your charger.

An OCC is far less expensive than a full electrical system upgrade. Additionally, Current Electric was the first company in Illinois to install OCC devices, meaning we have both the experience and the customer service to deliver quality results. We also make sure to stay up to date on all kinds of EV charger station technology, and the most advanced installation methods and models.

EV Charger Installation Cost in Northfield, IL

Most EV installations cost around $2,500, but prices vary based on the following:

  • The amperage draw of the charger
  • How complicated the electrical route is from the panel to the charger
  • The distance from the electrical panel to the parked car
  • The amount of amperage left in the panel to power the charger

Why Should You Switch to An Electric Vehicle?

Electric vehicles come with a number of perks, including saving money on gas, convenience, and fewer maintenance costs. Additionally, electric cars help reduce emissions that impact the climate and public health.
