Tesla Car Charger Installations

Tesla Electric Car Chargers

Teslas come with a proprietary NEMA 14-50 plug that attaches to the Tesla Wall Connector. The capabilities of your electrical panel dictate how quickly this wall connector will charge your vehicle.

A 15 amp circuit breaker, for example, provides just 5 to 11 miles of charge per hour. Generation 3 Tesla chargers are compatible with circuit breakers up to 60 amps. Plugging your Tesla into a generation 3 charger for an hour provides 30 miles of range for the Model X, 24 miles for the Model S, and 44 miles for the Model 3.

If your breaker isn’t capable of the charging speeds you’re looking for, we can upgrade it as part of the car charger installation. Whether or not we need to upgrade your circuit breaker, obtaining a permit is always the first step of electric car charger installations. Once your local authorities approve our plans, we’ll get to work.

Upon completion, the local inspection authority will need to inspect your new EV charger to confirm that it’s up to code. We take great care to ensure that all of our work meets every local guideline, making these inspections mostly a formality.

Once the inspector signs off on your new Tesla charger, we’ll submit photos of the installation to Tesla for their records. And with all of that red tape out of the way, you’ll be free to charge your Tesla from the comfort of your home any time you like.

Other Types of Car Chargers

Although Tesla quickly cemented its spot as the most popular brand of electric cars, virtually every other carmaker is racing to catch up. As a result, many of our customers find us by searching for generic “EV charger installers near me.” Whatever kind of electrical vehicle you have, we can help find an appropriate charger and install it for you.

For the most part, Tesla is the only brand that uses proprietary connectors. And even then, you can purchase adapters to charge your Tesla on other kinds of chargings stations. Thus, as long as we install at least a level 2 charger, you should have no trouble keeping any EV fully charged while at home.

When installing other types of car chargers, our team provides the same level of service that earned us recognition from Tesla. We perform electric car charging installations in Glenview, Northbrook, Winnetka, Wilmette, Evanston, Highland Park, and throughout the North Shore. So you don’t have to keep searching for car charger installations near me.

Instead, give Current Electrical Contractors a call at 847-832-0700 so we can help you pick out the perfect charger and install it at your home or office.

New Electric Charging Technology

Sometimes there is not enough power in your electrical panel to power an electric car charger. Previously, the homeowner would have to make an expensive upgrade to their home’s electrical system when installing the charger. But our electrician near Evanston has a different option: an Open Charging Station Controller (OCC).

An OCC monitors the electrical current flowing through your electrical panel and will shut off your charger before reaching the maximum current. The OCC will then automatically restart the charger once more current becomes available. While this installation will have an additional cost, it is far less expensive than a full electrical system upgrade.

Current Electrical Contractors was the first company in Illinois to install an OCC device. And while other companies have since followed suit, we still have far more experience working with these devices than any other electricians in the area.

The world of electric car chargers is rapidly changing and evolving. As a result, it’s easier and more affordable for more people to make the switch from gas-powered vehicles to electric ones We strive to stay on top of these latest trends to serve as reliable EV charger installers for all of Glenview, Winnetka, Wilmette, Evanston, Highland Park, and the rest of the North Shore.

How Much Does A Car Charger Installation Cost?

The average installation is $2,500 but will vary. Pricing is based on:

  • The distance from the electrical panel to the parked car
  • The amount of amperage left in the panel to power the charger
  • The amperage draw of the charger
  • How complicated the electrical route is from the panel to the charger

Why Make the Switch?

Switching from a traditional fuel car to an electric car provides various personal and environmental benefits. You’ll never again have to waste time or money at a gas station. Plus, switching to an EV will save you roughly ⅔ of your transportation costs. And that’s just comparing gas to electricity. Lower maintenance costs will help you save even more!

Electric cars also help reduce dangerous emissions that contribute to climate change, ecological damage, and poor public health. With record-breaking temperatures and natural disasters hitting us every year, it’s never been more important to make a change. And trading in your gas guzzler for an electric vehicle is one of the most effective ways to reduce your carbon footprint.
